First trials on the new high-speed railroad South-Europe-Atlantique (SEA) high-speed line (LGV)<\/strong> linking the city of Tours to Bordeaux have begun and speed will increase up to 352 km\/h over the next days on one of the Reinforced Earth\u00ae structures supporting a track, where commercial speed of trains will reach 320 km\/hr.<\/h2>\n

Indeed, for research and development purposes, a Reinforced Earth\u00ae wall which support a track which will be trafficked with speeds up to 352 km\/h (at the time of speed trials before the commercial opening of the line) was instrumented in collaboration with IFSTTAR (The French institute of science and technology for transport, development and networks), to enable a\u00a0better understanding of the diffusion of dynamic stresses within the structure during the passage of trains.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to the\u00a0reduction of costs<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0faster operation<\/strong>, this type of construction offers a\u00a0proven compatibility with the dynamic stresses introduced by the passage of trains<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Opening of the tracks is planned for 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is the LGV SEA?<\/h2>\n

As the initial construction of a high-speed line on France’s distributor model<\/strong>, the Tours-Bordeaux LGV SEA project is part of\u00a0a land-use planning scheme<\/strong>, which is mainly the result of decisions made by the last Grenelle Environment Forum.<\/p>\n

The Tours-Bordeaux LGV SEA will include\u00a0340 km of new lines<\/strong>, of which\u00a0302 km will be a high-speed line<\/strong> and around forty km will be connected to the existing line. It crosses:\u00a03 regions<\/strong>\u00a0(Centre, Poitou-Charentes and Aquitaine),\u00a06 departments<\/strong>\u00a0(Indre-et-Loire, Vienne, Deux-S\u00e8vres, Charente, Charente-Maritime and Gironde) and\u00a0113 municipalities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Among the\u00a0expected economic benefits<\/strong>\u00a0are:
\n– The\u00a0release of the operation from the current line<\/strong>\u00a0to develop TER and freight.
\n– The\u00a0reinforcement of the European rail network<\/strong>: the Tours-Bordeaux LGV SEA is part of the entire Sud Europe-Atlantique (South Europe-Atlantic) (SEA) rail, which will continue to Toulouse and Spain, linking the regions of northern and eastern Europe, the south-west of France and the Iberian peninsula.
\n–\u00a0New economic developments for regions passed through<\/strong>\u00a0and in particular the development of the greater south-west region.<\/p>\n
